In late 2010 DairyCo commissioned 'A review of peer reviewed literature on the treatment and prevention of foot lameness in cattle published between 2000 and 2011'
This work identified gaps in the current research on treatment of lameness (particularly white line disease) and prevention of lameness. Other areas identified as a current gap where 'screening for lameness using different methods of detection' plus a study of 'relationship over time of different lesions causing lameness and inciting risk factors'.
This review of papers has fed into the mobility aspects of the Health and Welfare Research Partnership which DairyCo has with The University of Nottingham et al. meaning that as results from this work comes through the findings will be incorporated into the DairyCo Healthy Feet Programme and the resources which sit as part of the programme.
