Potential Funding Support for Schools

With school budgets increasingly being reduced, there's never been a better time to apply for additional funding support that may help you with your proposed activities. Here are a few potential organizations that may help you to secure that extra finance:

  • Contact your Local Authority and Early Years Development &Childcare Partnership for details of any financial support that may be available.
  • Enquire about any potential Extended Schools funding available from your LA. More details can be found at teachernet.gov.uk
  • Sure Start - Provide a funding guide under the Sure Start Service on their website, visit: www.surestart.gov.uk  for more information.
  • Fundraising for schoolsFundraising for Schools - is the leading source of information on grants. It will help you apply for money to the appropriate places at the appropriate times.
  • Whether your school is seeking funding for a specific project or just raising funds to aid its development then visit www.practicalfunding.co.uk  for more information.
  • Contact your local Primary Care Trust to access information on healthy eating promotional grant availability.
  • Every Child MattersChildren's Fund - The Children's Fund was launched in November 2000 as part of the government's commitment to tackle disadvantages among children and young people.
  •  Two of the specific objectives of the Children's Fund are:
    o To promote attendance in school by 5-13-year-olds
    o To achieve improved educational performance among 5-13-year-olds

  • The Neighbour hood Renewal Fund (NRF) is a special non ring fenced grant which has been made available to England's most deprived local authorities, to enable the minimum collaboration with their Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) to improve services. www.neighbourhood.gov.uk
  • New Deal for Communities are tackling five key themes and two of those themes are poor health and educational under achievement. To find out if you are eligible for a grant visit: www.neighbourhood.gov.uk
  • Some local businesses in and around your area may also provide support via their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. Why not check out their websites or contact them direct to ask what are their CSR objectives.


East of England
School Farm Links Project

The Suffolk Agricultural Association is able to provide schools with a grant of £50.00 towards transport costs to enable pupils to visit working farms to learn about food, farming and conservation.  They have a database of farms across the County that are experienced in taking schools and will be able to match your teaching requirements to the most appropriate farm. Scotland Funding
Site Visits Travel Bursary: The Growing Communities partnership has a travel bursary scheme funded by the Big Lottery. This is open to anyone actively engaged in community gardens, therapeutic gardens or city farms that wishes to go and visit other such groups to share ideas and good practice. This bursary scheme is not for allotments.

You will be able to apply for up to £300 in total for travel and associated expenses for up to six people. Bursaries will be awarded to applicants that can demonstrate that the proposed visit will inform and assist their own community garden, therapeutic garden or city farm. FCFCG and Trellis will be able to help you identify other community gardens, therapeutic gardens and city farms across Scotland to visit. Application success will depend on your application and available funding. We will award 10 bursaries each year.
