Q: Why does my child's school not offer milk?
A: Some schools do not realise how easy it can be to make milk available It's best to check with your local authority in the first instance, to ensure that there is school milk provision in place For your local authority contact details click here
Once you have established what is and can be available to schools in your area, you could approach your child's school to ask them to look at making milk available for your child. Some schools may not know where to start, this could be your school and you can help them by using information for schools.
Q: What types of milk are there and why can't my child have (semi/ whole/ skimmed milk?)
A: Following the introduction of the new food in schools standards (www.schoolfoodtrust.org.uk) all local authorities are now expected to provide semi skimmed milk in their schools. Check with your local authority as to their guidelines on milk provision in schools
When you are approaching your school about providing milk for your child, why not take a copy of the Health Benefits of semi skimmed milk.
Q: Is there anything I can do to help?
A: You could help by volunteering to give out the milk or collect money from other parents. Do you know anyone that could help volunteer eg: a family member or a retired friend?
