Farmhouse Breakfast Week 22 - 28 January 2012.

Farmhouse Breakfast Week is fast approaching!
This year HGCA is urging the one in four breakfast skippers to "Shake Up Their Wake Up" by making a healthy breakfast a priority.HGCA

HGCA is asking the farming industry to get involved and showcase the best in home grown produce.  There are many ways in which you can take part including visiting a local school to talk to the children about where their breakfast foods come from, inviting your local school on a farm visit or supplying breakfast produce and having a Farmhouse Breakfast for your local community!  For further information and ideas please visit www.shakeupyourwakeup.com/get-involved

If you hold a special event for Farmhouse Breakfast Week, be sure to order the free resources to help promote your event.  There are posters, stickers and recipe booklets available to order on the website at www.shakeupyourwakeup.com/get-involved/order-your-resources

For further information please visit the website www.shakeupyourwakeup.com , email breakfast@hgca.com or telephone 024 7647 8735.

Farmers can play a key role in DairyCo's School Milk Project. In fact, whether you've got school age children or not, your support could prove invaluable.

If you have children at primary school or nursery:

  • Find out if they already receive milk at school
  • If not, approach the issue as a parent, rather than a potential supplier
  • Download our Head Teacher's letter and Health Benefits of Semi Skimmed milk documents  to take with you when you visit the school.
  • Explain to a member of staff that you would like your children to have milk at school and offer to help them. Many schools have parent volunteers helping to administer and distribute the milk so this is not an unusual request
  • Direct the school to this web site for free advice and support with their milk provision.

If you're not a parent with school age children:

  • You can still contact your local schools and find out if they are providing milk to their children
  • If they are interested in introducing milk, then direct the school to this site for additional information and advice as to how to take things further

As well as getting in touch with your local schools, another great way of generating interest is to give a talk at a school assembly. Children are always fascinated to hear how milk is produced and it's amazing what they take in. TSMP will also support you by providing stickers and handouts for the assembly just let us know when and where by emailing Project@schoolmilk.co.uk. Ideally provide us with minimum 7 days notice to ensure we can deliver in time.

We often get requests from schools for farmers who are experienced in talking/presenting to children and willing to talk about milk production and it's great for us to be able to volunteer a name. So if you find it easy to communicate with children between the ages of 5 and 16, or have spoken/presented to children before we would love to hear from you.

Get more involved

Why not go one step further and open up your farm for school visits? Or if you are interested in supplying your milk to schools in your local area and would like more information on how to do this, please email diane.cannon@dairyco.org.uk.
