This literature review finds that information published in reviewed scientific journals on the breeding of forage brassica is limited. The research that has been done focuses on dry matter production and disease resistance. There is no evidence of work on selection for environmental, sustainable traits.

Discussions with end users have identified the need for genetic improvement. Key traits which have been identified are: good disease resistance, good DM yield, good digestibility, clubroot resistance, winter hardiness and flexibility.
