New feeding campaign to be launched at Dairy Event

Dairy farmers have the opportunity to sign up to DairyCo's innovative new feeding campaign at this year's Dairy Event and Livestock Show.

Recent DairyCo research showed a marked difference in feeding costs between the most and least efficient producers and highlighted that many dairy farmers could make significant savings - up to 2ppl - through more efficient feeding and nutrition.

The feeding+ campaign, designed and written by four highly respected nutrition specialists, covers all aspects of feeding and nutrition and will be the focus of the stand in Exhibition Hall 3 at this year's show.

Farmers will be able to sign up for the new campaign and find out more about other areas of DairyCo work including the latest research and development projects, dairy business groups and the School Milk Project, as well ordering other DairyCo publications and tools including the recently launched Dairy Wizard.

Also featuring this year will be information on Profitable Lifetime Index (PLI), which has been proven to impact positively on farm margins, and will include details of differing levels of performance between top PLI and lower PLI herds fed the same diet.

DairyCo extension officers will be manning the stand on both days along with DairyCo board members - dairy farmers are encouraged to attend and discover the latest tools and services available from the levy.

Notes for Editors:

DairyCo's current focus is on improving the profitability of dairy farming by focusing on four specific areas:
•    The provision of a world-class information service
•    Helping dairy farmers increase their profits while meeting regulatory and environmental requirements - through better business management.
•    Helping promote the positive perception of dairy products and dairy farming with the general public
•    The development of DairyCo towards a self-sustaining model.

DairyCo is funded entirely by milk producers, via a statutory levy on all milk sold off-farm, at the rate of 0.06p per litre.  This provides an annual income of around £7m.

DairyCo co-funds the industry's nutritional and issues management resource - The Dairy Council - with the processors' trade body Dairy UK.

DairyCo Limited was set up in April 2008 following a fundamental review of agricultural levy boards by Defra. The five existing levy boards (including the Milk Development Council) were replaced by one statutory levy board, the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB).

Reporting in to AHDB are six sector companies - DairyCo covers the milk sector.
