Increase in retail sales of liquid milk

Comparing the 52 weeks ending 17 Apr 2010 and the 52
weeks ending 17 Apr 2011:
- Total milk sales by volume stood at 5.1 billion litres, 2.2%
(112.2m litres) higher when compared to the previous
year.
- Total sales by value fell by 4.7% to £3.3 billion
between April 2010 and April 2011, with the average price
for liquid milk in the retail sector down 4.6ppl over the
period.
- Doorstep sales accounted for 4.6% of the total volume
of milk sold for household consumption in April 2011,
equivalent to 236.8m litres and down by 12.6% when compared with
the previous year.
- Filtered milk has shown an increase in sales volume over
the period, up by 4.7% from the previous year to 342.3m
litres.
- Organic milk sales by volume fell by 4.9% (8.0m litres) from
previous year levels and by 5.1% (£6.9m) in value terms.
