AMPE, which measures the returns of a litre of milk processed into skimmed milk powder and butter, is 0.1ppl down on last month at 32.3ppl. The slight decrease comes as a result of movements in UK wholesale markets. There was a £100/tonne (2.9%) decrease in the price of butter from February's price to £3,400/tonne. In contrast, in the powder markets, SMP increased by £50/tonne between February and March to £2,150/tonne, a 2.4% increase, although spot prices fell.
