DairyCo grows its Scottish team

DairyCo is growing its presence in Scotland with the recruitment of new extension officer Sophie Kinnear.

Sophie will work closely with her colleague Heather Wildman, who currently runs events across the country.

Sophie graduated from the Scottish Agricultural College and Glasgow University earlier this year with a degree in Applied Bioscience, including a thesis on embryo transfer in British dairy herds. She has a wide variety of practical experience on dairy farms having grown up in a family of dairy and beef farmers in Wigtownshire, and through her work as a relief milker.

"I'm thrilled to be part of the DairyCo team," says Sophie, "it means being part of the industry and helping farmers access information that can improve understanding and enjoyment for the job and improve the overall sustainability of British dairying.

"My experience is mainly practical on-farm but I have a great interest in the area of improved fertility and breeding management in the herd, and my degree gave me a broad insight into the UK farming industry from an alternative prospective rather than from the farm.

"I'm keen to look at how we can bring ideas, knowledge and experience together to achieve a greater outcome.

"I hope to work closely with levy payers in order to help reach their business potential by utilising DairyCo's extensive knowledge and expertise, information available and tools for farm improvement.  I look forward to meeting everyone in the near future.

Stuart Goodinson, head of the DairyCo extension team is delighted to welcome Sophie on board: "the extension team now has a wide range of skills within it. Not just the technical specialists, but top quality facilitators, speakers, and meeting organisers as well as the ability to run effective business improvement programmes."
