DairyCo at the Dairy and Livestock Event 2010
Published 27 July 10
As a major sponsor of the Dairy Event and Livestock Show,
DairyCo will have a host of information for dairy farmers designed
to help and support business development and current and future
challenges. There will be four key information areas on the
stand: health and welfare, business management, fertility and grass
and forage. The DairyCo extension officers, and the regional
Milkbench+ officers will be on-hand, alongside analysts from market
intelligence and our research and development departments, to
answer dairy farmer queries.
Other highlights include:
- Ten lucky dairy farmers will win £200 worth of semen straws in
the DairyCo 'Bull Bonanza' competition. The competition is
being run to promote the importance of good genetics and how, by
working with DairyCo Breeding+, farmers can get
more from breeding.
- DairyCo is introducing a new series of templates to provide
guidance to dairy farmers who are considering a joint venture with
other dairy businesses, or bringing others into the business
structure.
The templates include contracts and guidance notes on share
milking, contract farming, cow hire, and equity partnerships. The
guidance notes have been written to help farmers understand the
practical and legal implications of setting up a joint venture, and
to assess the suitability of joint ventures for their
business.
- In the Herd Health Planning area, DairyCo extension officer Jo
Speed will be giving the latest information on mobility and foot
health following her Nuffield Scholarship on the subject, alongside
Nick Bell of Bristol University Healthy Feet Project. The
pair will be looking at mobility scoring, early and effective
intervention for those identified with problems, and the importance
of on-going monitoring.
