Size of UK dairy herd stabilising
Published 15 October 10
There were 1.847m dairy cows aged 2 years or more in June 2010, a fall of 0.5% compared to last year according to the latest June census published by Defra (the full report can be downloaded by clicking here). The figures show however that the number of heifers aged between 1 and 2 has increased by 10% between June 09 and June 10. This large rise could lead to a rise in the the size of the UK herd from next year which would have an impact on milk production.
