Monthly EU Milk Deliveries

Please note, these figures are now reported in million litres (not thousand tonnes).

  • In July 2014, 12.4 million litres of milk were delivered to dairies in the EU-28, 532 million litres (4.5%) more than in July 2013.

Please note Spain data provisional from January 2010, France data provisional from January 2010, Slovenia data provisional from January 2013 and UK data provisional from January 2007. Data from Belgium since June 2014 are Eurostat estimates.

Figures from January 2007 to August 2012 and October 2012 to March 2014 do not include Malta's milk delivery data due to confidentiality. It was estimated they only produced around 3-6 million litres per month which would not substantially affect the percentage increase/decrease shown.

EU Milk Deliveries

Comparisons between years showed that of the EU-28 member states, 25 showed an increase in deliveries (in million litres) between July 2013 and July 2014, while 2 member states (Greece and Spain) showed a decrease.

The five largest milk producing members in July 2014 (Germany, France, UK, Netherlands and Poland) produced a combined figure of 7,812m litres, (8,044 thousand tonnes) which was 351m litres (4.7%) more than the previous year equivalent to 341 thousand tonnes. These five countries contribute over half of the milk delivered in EU-28 countries.

Romania showed the largest year on year increase in percentage terms, as it did in June, with July 2014 deliveries at 93.7m litres - an increase of 9.8m litres (11.7%).

The July EU weighted average milk price stood at €37.23/100kg (30.40ppl), down €0.39/100kg (1.0%) on the previous month. Compared with the previous year, the weighted average EU price for July was up €0.92/100kg (2.5%), however, this was a decrease on the year of 1.80ppl.
