EU Dairy Imports

In February 2015:

  • EU imports of WMP totalled 90 tonnes. In the same month in 2014 imports totalled 6.5 tonnes.
  • Imports of SMP are up by 106.8 tonnes on the previous year at 187.1 tonnes.
  • EU imports of Butter and Butteroil at 1305.7 tonnes are 88.8% lower than the previous year. This in fall in imports of Butter and Butteroil appears to be explained by volumes from New Zealand falling by 10160 tonnes (88.8%) compared to February 2014.
  • Cheese imports are significantly (54.1%) lower than the previous year at 3,858.5 tonnes,
  • Imports of Whey totalled 616.6 tonnes, 18.4% higher than the previous year, with imports from Norway up 56.8% compared to February 2014.

Cumulative imports: Jan-Feb 2015

  • Cumulative imports of WMP into the EU were 501.2 tonnes higher than the same period in 2014.
  • Imports of SMP for the first two months of 2015 totalled 244 tonnes. This represents an increase of 150 tonnes compared to the same period in 2014.
  • Butter and butteroil imports are down 80.2%. As mentioned earlier lower volumes in February from New Zealand contributed to this decrease.
  • Cheese import volumes have fallen 56.3% to 17,456.6 tonnes during the first two months of 2015. This has occurred on the back of lower shipments from New Zealand, Australia and the US.
  • Whey powder imports remained relatively the same as the first two months of 2014 recording a small increase of 9 tonnes.
