  • Cow Comfort on Cubicle Beds15 January 10
This project was set up to improve the understanding of dairy cow comfort in cubicles by investigating the impact absorption of Pasture Mat rubber-crumb mattresses and Maxibed ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) mats
  • Dairy Cow Housing Straw Yards/Cubicles14 January 10
The objectives of this study were to determine the relative costs and effects on cow performance and welfare of straw yards or cubicles as housing systems for dairy cows.
  • Evaluating Cow Mats and Matresses15 January 10
The objective of the trial was to determine if the more expensive mattress cubicle bed resulted in a better housing environment for the cows.
  • Heat Recovery from Refrigeration Systems15 January 10
The addition of a mains / bore hole water to milk plate heat exchanger (PHE) to a farms milk cooling system can significantly reduce milk cooling costs. A survey carried out by the Farm Energy Centre showed that many PHE installations were not operating as efficiently as possible.
  • Parlour Automation15 January 10
The objective of this study is to provide independent advice to dairy farmers to allow them to make informed decisions when investing in new milking systems and facilities.
  • The Bulk Milk Tank Cooling Efficiency15 January 10
The results of this project have shown that some new milk cooling systems (MCS) can cost half as much to run as others. However, in most cases this also means a higher capital cost that cannot normally be justified on running cost savings alone.
