Across breeds evaluation
Published 9 September 09
This project analysed available data to discover if cross
breeding evaluations could be successfully undertaken in the UK.
It's starting point was the fact that other countries, most notably
New Zealand, practise cross breeding, but it has not had a
significant impact in the UK.
The main objectives of the project were;
- to adapt software to calculate breed proportions on a full
national pedigree file
- adapt processes to to extract data for all breeds together
- produce summary statistics for all breed data
- review published data for across-breed parameters and
methodologies
- prepare a dataset for genetic parameter calcuation
for major breeds and crosses
- carry our preliminary model investigations on B&W
dataset
- carry out preliminary genetic evaluation
