Introducing the Extension Team in your area

A key part of being an extension officer is to help provide world class knowledge to our UK dairy farmers. We work with a range of different dairy organisations to make sure we are as accessible as possible providing the most up to date and effective information for you to use in your business.

As a team we can share our technical expertise with the dairy farming community. Discussion groups and open meetings are always great tools to discover alternative methods and share experiences.

What's coming up?

Tuesday 29 May 2012, Join Ian Ohnstad of The Dairy Group, internationally recognised specialist in milking technology, on farm where we will discuss all aspects of milk harvesting. If you are looking at improving or replacing you current milking parlour and equipment Ian will look at Milking parlour specification and operation, Hygienic milk production, Cow flow and dairy building design. the event will take place on Beaks Farm, Spithurst Road, Barcombe, BN85EB. For more information please contact Izak van Heerden on 07854 507279

Tuesday 8 May 2012 This will be the third in a series of meetings looking at making strategic breeding decisions to improve your herd's performance. This meeting will give you an understanding of the technology used and provide you with information on how to use genomic PTAs. Are genomics more reliable?  Are genomically assessed bulls better? What should you pay for a genomically tested bull? The event will take place at Caines Farm Partnership, Durford Road, Petersfield, Hants, GU31 4HS By kind permission of  Mr Peter & Richard Caines.  For more information please contact Izak van Heerden on 07854 507279

DairyCo Extension Officer Shirley Macmillan - "There are 93 milk producers in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire with a further 24 in Northamptonshire. They include a range of breeds - Jersey, Guernsey, Holstein, Friesian and crossbred  - with herd sizes from 16 to 600. Having now visited all of these dairy farms and established people's problems and preferences, I'm putting together tailored meetings for small groups within one hour's travelling distance. DairyCo's role is to fill the gaps and offers a chance for levy payers and their staff to get something back for their levy and learn together in an independent, confidential environment where dairy farming is positive, profitable and fun.

So if you are interested in taking part in an Impact Group (a series of three meetings covering topics such as business or breeding) or forming a DairyCo Discussion Group please get in touch".
