EU Dairy Producer Numbers
The number of dairy producers in the EU- 27 fell by 14% (169,429) between 2009/10 and 2010/11 to 1,038,685. Poland and Romania, one of the newest Member States accounted for 53.7% of the total number of producers in the 27 current Member States, with Romania alone accounting for 37.1%. Looking at the EU- 25, the number of producers has fallen by 5.3% (35,609) over the same period to 635,643 producers.
Romania, home to the majority of European dairy producers experienced the second largest fall in dairy producer numbers between 2009/10 and 2010/11 falling by 47,878 (11.1%) to 384,959. In percentage terms and absolute numbers Bulgaria has seen the largest fall in producers over the period, falling by 82.6% to 18,083.
