- Latest figures from OPEC show that the price of oil decreased by $4.79 (-3.9%) to $118.18/barrel in April 2012.
- Annual comparisons show that the price of oil is very similar to April of last year when it was $118.09.
- In sterling terms, the April price of £73.91/barrel was down £3.79/barrel (-4.9%) on the previous month but up £1.67/barrel (2.3%) year-on-year.
- In April, the average price for red diesel was up 2.49ppl (3.4%) to 76.55ppl and the retail pump price of diesel rose by 3.0ppl (2.1%) to 148.04ppl compared with March.
Red diesel prices are now 8.1% higher than 12 months previously, with the average price in April 2012 5.76ppl higher than a year earlier at 76.55ppl.

Annual Price
Figures show that the average price of oil stood at $77.45/barrel for 2010 which was a rise of 26.8% compared with 2009.
In the last ten years crude oil prices have trebled increasing from $27.60/barrel in 2000 to $77.45/barrel in 2010. Dairy farmers are now paying an annual average of 55.30ppl for red diesel - a rise of 31.38ppl (131%) over the last decade. Pump prices for diesel have increased by 37.91ppl (46.6%)

Up to December 2005: Monthly & Yearly averages were based on weekly quotations.
As of January 2006: Monthly & Yearly averages are based on daily quotations.
