Latest import figures (Jan-Mar) show that imports were up for the majority of products.
Butter and Butteroil imports stood at 30,000 tonnes, compared with just over 4,000 tonnes for the same period in 2011. Much of this is on account of imports coming from New Zealand to a variety of destinations. Total imports in 2011 stood at 31,000 tonnes, a slight decrease on the previous year.
Cheese imports (Jan-Mar) were 20,700 tonnes, an increase of 7,100 tonnes (41.9%) compared to the same period last year. Germany saw imports of 6,900 tonnes, 1,300 tonnes more than the same period in 2011.
There were also increases in imports of liquid whey, casein and lactose during the period January to March.
