Intervention Stocks

EU Intervention Stocks

There has been a major change to the sale of products from intervention.  The tender system for the sale of intervention SMP has been withdrawn and no SMP is now available for sale from intervention.  The SMP previously available for sale has been allocated to charity schemes in 2012.  No butter is available for sale from intervention.

Market prices, although falling, remain above intervention prices so there is still no product being sold into intervention. Excluding butter allocated to the 'deprived persons' scheme, there are virtually no butter stocks.  However, there has been some activity in the Private Storage Aid (PSA) scheme.  Between the scheme opening at the end of February and 18 March, 20,747 tonnes of butter have been put into storage.  This is 47% more than the same period in 2011 with the Netherlands accounting for a third.

Looking at SMP, there are just over 6,000 tonnes of SMP in EU stocks.
