UK Dairy Trade Balance

  • Exports for all dairy products rose between 2008 and 2009, with the exception of raw milk and milk powders.   
  • The imports in the raw milk market rose by 34 million litres between 2008 and 2009. While butter imports rose by 9,000 tonnes and cheese imports rose 6,000 tonnes.
  • Comparing 2009 to 1999 shows that imports of raw milk and butter have fallen 25.2% and 20.4% respectively.

UK Trade Balance in spend terms

The deficit in the UK trade balance in dairy products rose in 2009 by £68m to reach the record level of £1.27bn. The value of imported dairy products fell by £2m but the value of dairy exports fell by more: £70m.
