The latest provisional data for June shows that raw milk processed into liquid was 3.5% higher compared with last year, at 565,101 tonnes. Production for the year ending June shows a 1.0% (64.4 thousand tonnes) increase in liquid milk produced compared to the previous year, to 6,826 thousand tonnes.
Milk processed into butter totalled 11,600 tonnes in June, an increase of 12.7% (1,310 tonnes) compared with the level in June 2009. Data for the 12 months ending June 2010 stood at 115,780 tonnes, a fall of 3.7% (4,470 tonnes) compared to the same period last year.
Cheese production was 2,280 tonnes (6.6%) higher in June compared to last year at 37,100 tonnes. Milk used for cheese production for the year ending June 2010 stood at 362,280 tonnes, 1.4% (5,260 tonnes) down on the previous year's level.

UK Manufacture of Cheese
Provisional cheese production figures for 2009 show that cheddar production was down by 8.5% compared to the previous year at 238,000 tonnes. Mozzarella production was down in 2009 compared to 2008, 44,000 tonnes were produced which was a 6.4% decrease compared to the previous year. Total cheese production stood at 354,000 tonnes which was a 7.3% decrease compared to the previous year.
