UK Dairy Advertising Expenditure
In the 2008/09 milk year £114.9 million was spent on advertising dairy products in the UK. This was a fall of 6.6% (£8.1 million) when compared to the previous milk year. Advertising dairy products has become more popular over the years, with the value of advertising spend increasing from £84.8 million in 1997/98 to £123.0 million in 2007/08. Expenditure has then fallen back between 2007/08 and 2008/09, this may in part be due to the decline in the world economy from mid 2008.
Yogurt and fromage frais sees the largest spend on advertising within the dairy sector, with £46.3 million spend in 2008/09 accounting for 40.3% of total advertising spend on dairy products. However, all areas within dairy with the exception of cheese have seen advertising expenditure fall between 2007/08 and 2008/09. Advertising spent on yogurt and fromage frais has fallen by 10.3% between 2007/08 and 2008/09, while advertising spend on cheese has increased 14.0% (£3.5 million) to £28.2 million.
